Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes garlic, chives and welsh onion) The onion, leek and garlic family of foods is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is little scientific evidence published, allyl sulphides are also thought to aid in colds, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your weight loss regime. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index weight loss program is based around the gi index, a list showing foods and an indicator of the speed with which the glucose and energy in the food gets converted to sugar in your system. The theory is that long-acting foods (ie with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to eat less food without feeling hungry. It is also extremeley effective for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI foods are helpful in controlling increases in glucose levels. |
