The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it supposedly allows weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like meat and hard cheese.
With this diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, weight loss regime.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The low calorie diet

In simple terms, a low calorie weight loss regime says that if you want to reduce weight, it is important to consume fewer calories than you burn up.

What is a calorie?
The calorie is the unit used for measuring the amount of energy in food. A calorie is the the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at atmospheric pressure. If a food contains more calories, then it will provide your body with more energy when it is eaten.

Low calorie food types include watercress, tomatoes, water melon, lean ham, and bamboo shoots.

Super foods containing lycopene
(includes apricot, papaya and tomatoes)

Lycopene is a naturally occurring pigment and member of the carotenid family of phytochemicals. It is the reason for the red colour of a good number of types of food.

Unlike most other nutritional compounds, this useful phytochemical not only survives being cooked, but is truly increased in efficacy by the cooking process.

. Lycoprene's most interesting benefit is that it behaves as an antioxidant and seems to be of use in the battle to reduce the probabilty of cancer.

This useful phytochemical is the strongest carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with aging of the skin. It is also believed to curtail the development of atherosclerosis.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
