Weight loss dietsThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet invented by Dr. arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his weight loss regime as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific data completed on other dietary studies. Examples of good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey bacon, oysters, provolone cheese, pistachio nuts, eggs and certain vegetables, like kidney beans, cauliflower and mushrooms. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Although highly controversial, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, such as meat and hard cheese. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carb/high protein, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet first detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, although many followers believe that they really lose weight by following it. The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a state of equilibrium which is an awful lot more healthful than usual, which is known as the zone. Sears holds the theory that a body that is in 'the zone' is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat. The main method of the zone system is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
