Diet typesThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' discover that they actually reduce weight by following this system. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts your body in a state of equilibrium which is more healthy than other diets, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears alleges that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The key process of the zone system is to maintain the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index diet is based around the glycaemic index, a list of food types and a score representing the ease with which the glucose in the food type gets transformed to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release foods (ie with a low Glycaemic score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can cut down on food without craving snacks all the time. It's also extremeley useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI foods are useful in preventing rises in blood sugar amount. |
