The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially devised by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet followers find that they manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the amount of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state that is much, much more healthful than other diets, which is known as the zone. Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat. The key technique of the system is to maintain the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6. The low calorie diet In a nutshell, the low calorie diet is based on the fact that if you want to lose weight, then you have to consume fewer calories than you burn up. So what is a calorie? A calorie is a measurement of the energy provided by food. A food calorie is the the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at atmospheric pressure. If something has higher calories, then it will will give you more energy when your body converts it. Low-cal food types include watercress, cabbage, water melon, ground turkey, and eggs. Foods rich in flavonoids (inlcudes garlic, kale, soya and cayenne) The nutrients called 'flavonoids' discovered in these natural foods show promise in helping to prevent cancer. Experts studying the medical effects of flavonoids believe they may well have many other health giving properties, amongst them, antiviral and antioxidant activities.. The majority of these also have a low calorie count, so are ideal for including in your diet. |
