The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet system is based on the gi index, a list of types of food and an indicator of the ease that the carbs in the food type gets converted to glucose in your blood stream. The theory is that slow release food types (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and mean that you can consume less food without being miserabl;e. It's also extremely effective for diabetics, as the low GI food types are helpful in managing increases in blood glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss program initially advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, but many 'zone dieters' discover that they manage to lose weight by following it. The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts one's body in a balanced state that is far more healthy than normal, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears claims that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, because of this, does not need to build up stores of fat. The most important method of the zone system is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. Healthy foods with carotenes (includes cilantro, turnip greens and sweet potatoes) These orange and green foods contain carotenes believed by nutritionalists to help in cancer prevention, specifically those cancers involving the lungs. Many also have a low calorie count, so you should add them to your diet system. |
