Superfoods containing lycopene
(includes guava, red peppers & tomato)

The nutrient lypcopene is a non-synthetic coloring agent and member of the carotenid family of phytochemicals. Lycopene is the agent responsible for the deep red hue of some fruits and vegetables.

Unlike numerous other nutritional compounds, lycopene does not become less effective if cooked but is in fact made more effective by being cooked.

. Lycoprene's most valuable benefit is that it acts as an antioxidant and is believed to be an asset in the battle to reduce the risks of contracting cancer.

This useful phytochemical is the most potent quencher of singlet oxygen, which is linked with skin aging. It's also thought by many experts to curtail the growth of atherosclerosis.

Wonder foods with carotenes
(includes carrots, collard greens and sweet potatoes)
These colorful healthy superfoods are rich in carotenes (alpha and beta) believed to help in cancer prevention, specifically those cancers involving the esophagus and stomach. The majority of these also help you lose weight, so should be included in your weight loss program.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet system primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight reduction diet, but many zone diet followers discover that they actually lose a few pounds when following it.
The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to control the amount of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts one's body in a state of balance that is more healthy than other diets, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't need to build up stores of fat.
The key procedure of the system is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take plenty of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
