The brassicas, Wonder foods that aid Your diet (eg. Arugula, Celery, Collard greens and Radishes) Members of the brassica family are full of vitamins (folate and vitamin c, for example), minerals (eg. potassium and selenium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, and indole-3-carbinol. Over and above their numerous health and diet benefits, the isothiocyanates in these are thought by many to significantly lower the risk of getting cancer. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss program first detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, nevertheless some people discover that they actually manage to lose a few pounds by following this system. The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you limit the amount of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts the body in a state of balance that is far more wholesome than usual, known as the 'zone'. Sears believes that a body that is in 'the zone' is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, does not build up layers of fat. The main method of the diet is to control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
