The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many of the foods you love, for example meat and eggs. With this diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is the carbs that must be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate/high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to convert into glucose and energy, it is the carbs which are burned initially. If we eat fewer carbs, we will utilize our stored fat and we will become thinner. This is the bit that is divisive, not all specialists accept this as true and a good number of hold that it is often risky. Lycopene rich foods (includes grapefruit, red bell peppers & rosehip) Lycopene is a simple chemical compound and one of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. This chemical is the agent responsible for the red color of a good number of foods. Unlike many nutritional compounds, this useful phytochemical is not damaged if it is cooked, but is really improved by being heated. . Its most valuable value is that it works as an antioxidant and appears to help reduce the risks of developing cancer. It is the most potent carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is associated with aging of the skin. It's also thought by nutritionalists to prevent the growth of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. |
