Diet informationThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition system first created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many followers claim that they actually lose weight when following it. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you limit the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts the body in a state of balance that is much, much more healthy than other diets, known as the 'zone'. Sears believes that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not build up fat. The most important technique of the diet is to maintain the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system started by Cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should consume "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Agatston developed his dietary regime for his cardiac patients, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific research on other weight loss systems. "good" foods include, broiled ham, skinless poultry, shellfish, low or fat free cheeses, peanuts, nonfat milk and some vegatables, like black beans, eggplant and water chestnuts. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing foods and an indicator of the speed that the glucose and energy in the food gets changed to sugar in your bloodstream. The theory is that long-acting food types (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satiated for longer and help to cut down on food without starving yourself. It is also extremeley useful for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are helpful in managing rises in blood sugar amount. |
