Weight loss systems

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system primarily invented by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a fat reduction diet, although many zone diet fans find that they actually lose a few pounds when following it.
The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state which is a lot more healthy than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its best and, as a result, doesn't build up layers of fat.
The most important technique of the zone system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as lamb and butter.
On the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is linked to the glycaemic index, a list of food types and a score illustrating the ease with which the glucose of the food gets converted to sugar in the dieters bloodstream. The claim is that slow acting types of food (ie with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to reduce your intake of food without feeling hungry.
It is also especially beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in managing increases in glucose amount.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
