Carotenoid foods (includes cilantro, mangos and sweet potatoes) These healthy superfoods have high levels of alpha-carotene and beta-carotene believed by scientists to play a major part in minimising the risk of cancer, particularly those cancers involving the lungs. Many also have a low calorie count, so should be a part of every weight loss regime. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, onions and green onion) The onion and garlic family of foods is rich in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is as yet, not enough scientific evidence published, allyl sulphides are also believed to reduce the symptoms of colds, arteriosclerosis and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides also help you lose weight, so should be included in every weight loss program. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system started by Cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed his weight loss system for his cardiac patients, as a result of his analysis of scientific research on other dietary studies. Approved foods include, lean cuts of beef, skinless poultry, seafood, cottage cheese, pistachio nuts, nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as kidney beans, lettuce and sprouts. |
