Weight loss systems

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet first suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not exactly a weight loss diet, nevertheless many followers find that they really seem to lose weight by following this system.
The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids which puts one's body in a state of equilibrium that is much more wholesome than usual, which is known as the zone.
Sears states that when your body is in this 'zone' it is working at its best and, as a consequence, does not convert energy to unsightly fat.
The main method of the diet is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is reliant on the glycaemic index, a list showing food types and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the carbs of the food type gets converted to sugar in the dieters body. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those foods with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to cut down on food without starving yourself.
It's also extremely efficient for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are beneficial in controlling surges in blood sugar secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet is still widely used today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, eg pork and eggs.
On the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into carbohydrates, it is the carbs that are burned primarily. If we cut down on carbohydrates, our bodies will utilise the fat we already carry and we will become thinner. Although tempting, the atkins diet is contentious, not all nutritionalists are in agreement and some experts allege that it can be risky.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
