Weight loss systems

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, for example fatty meat and butter.
On the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing types of food and a score representing the speed that the glucose of the food type gets transformed to glucose in your system. The believe is that slow acting types of food (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to reduce your intake of food without craving snacks all the time.
It's also extremely effective for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in controlling increases in blood glucose amount.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system initially detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many people believe that they actually seem to lose a few pounds by following it.
The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state that is more healthy than it normally is, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears believes that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its best and, as a consequence, doesn't need to build up stores of fat.
The main process of the system is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure you get increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
