Superfoods containing lycopene (includes grapefruit, papaya and tomato) The chemical lypcopene is a naturally occurring chemical compound and part of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. This chemical is the reason for the red color of a good number of foods. Unlike many other vitamins, lycopene does not become less effective if subjected to heat, but is genuinely made more effective by cooking. . Its most interesting nutritional contribution is that it behaves as an antioxidant and appears to be of use in the battle to lower the risk of developing cancer. This useful phytochemical is the most powerful remover of singlet oxygen, which is linked with aging of the skin. It's also thought by many experts to slow down the growth of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes eschalot, leeks and spring onions) The onion range of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is too little hard medical proof available, allyl sulphides are also believed to reduce problems with blood circulation, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides also help you lose weight, so should be included in your diet. The Atkins’ Diet Origi |
