Types of diet

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston developed his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a consequence of his detailed analysis of scientific studies on other diets.
Good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey breast, fish and shellfish, parmesan cheese, peanut butter, lowfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, such as butter beans, eggplant and spinach.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition system first devised by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t specifically a weight reduction diet, although many 'zone dieters' discover that they really lose weight when following it.
The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the secretion of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, as a result puts the body in a balanced state which is far more healthy than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't build up fat.
The main method of the zone system is to monitor and control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 and omega 6.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet is still widely used today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow weight reduction whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as lamb and butter.
With the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is often referred to as a high protein, low carb, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The controversial theory behind the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to change into energy, it is the carbohydrates which are burned first. If we reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, we will utilize our stored fat and we will reduce weight. This theory is divisive, not all researchers are in agreement and a few think it is often bad for your health.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
