Diet types

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition system is based around the gi index, a list of foods and a score representing the speed that the energy in the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to reduce your consumption of food without craving snacks all the time.
It is also extremeley effective for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are helpful in managing rises in blood glucose amount.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan started by Florida-based cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that dieters should be eating "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston invented the south beach diet for his cardiac patients, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific studies completed on other weight loss studies.
"good" foods include, lean beef, turkey bacon, prawns, ricotta cheese, peanuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, such as green beans, collard greens and sprouts.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although highly controversial, it allows weight loss whilst allowing you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example beef and cheeses.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet primarily created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, although many people believe that they really manage to lose weight by following this system.
The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can control the levels of two important hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts one's body in a balanced state that is a lot more healthful than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The most important process of the system is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
