The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not particularly a weight loss diet, although many 'zone dieters' claim that they actually seem to lose weight when following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids which, in turn puts one's body in a balanced state that is more healthful than it normally is, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat. The most valuable technique of the system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index weight loss regime is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing food types and an indicator of the speed with which the energy of the food type gets converted to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The theory is that slow release food types (ie those food types with a low Gi score), suppress your appetite for longer and help you to eat less food without starving yourself. It's also very efficient for people with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are helpful in reducing rises in glucose amount. Cruciferous vegetables, Healthy superfoods that aid Your diet (eg. Kohlrabi, Cauliflower, Turnip greens and Radishes) Known as cruciferous vegetables, these are packed with vitamins (eg.folate and vitamin c), minerals (eg. selenium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. Over and above their numerous other health and weight loss benefits, the isothiocyanates in these are believed by nutritionalists to significantly lower the risk of getting cancer. |
