Ingredients
FRUIT SALAD
3 can mandarin orange, drained, (11 oz ea.)
3 grapefruit, pink, peeled, seeded and sectio
6 bibb lettuce heads, torn int bite size pieces
POPPY SEED DRESSING
1/4 cup onion, chopped (to 1/2 cup)
3/4 cup vinegar, tarragon
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 1/2 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
3/4 cup oil, vegetable
Directions
Combine mandarin oranges, grapefruit sections, and lettuce in a large salad
bowl; toss lightly. Serve with Poppy Seed Dressing.
Poppy Seed Dressing: Combine first 7 ingredients in container of electric
blender; blend well. Slowly add 3/4 cup vegetable oil, continuing to blend
until thick. Pour into a jar with a tight-fitting lid, and chill. Shake
well before serving. Yield: 2 cups Food Exchange per serving: 1 FRUIT
EXCHANGE + 1 FAT EXCHANGE

The low-cal diet
As most people know, a low calorie weight loss regime is based on the fact that in order to get rid of some fat, it is important to injest less calories than you actually use. Definition of a calorie? A calorie is a measurement of the energy provided by food. A 'calorie' is the the energy required to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree centigrade at normal atmospheric pressure. If something contains more calories, then it will turn into more energy when your body digests it. Low-cal food types include fresh green beans, green peppers, guava, lower fat hot-dogs, and white eggs. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows weight reduction whilst encouraging you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example beef and egg and cheese. With the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. Superfoods containing carotenes (includes cilantro, collard greens and tomato puree) These colorful natural foods have high levels of alpha and beta carotenes believed by experts play a key role in preventing cancer, spefically cancer of the stomach. Most are also low in calories, so should be included in every weight loss program. |
