The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet system is reliant on the glycaemic index, a list of types of food and a score representing the speed that the carbs in the food type gets converted to glucose in your system. The theory is that long-acting foods (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and mean that you can eat less food without starving yourself. It's also very useful for folk with diabetes, as the low GI food types are beneficial in managing surges in glucose amount. The Atkins’ Diet Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Although highly controversial, it claims to allow fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example lamb and hard cheeses. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. Healthy foods with carotenes (includes carrots, kale and tomato puree) These colorful natural foods are rich in alpha-carotene and beta-carotene thought by experts to play a major part in helping stop cancer, particularly cancers of the stomach and lesophagus. Most are also low in calories, so you should add them to your diet. |
