The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a weight loss system started by Miami-based cardiologist arthur agatston which emphasizes that dieters should be eating "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented his system as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a result of his detailed study of scientific studies on other diets. Examples of good foods include, veal cutlets, skinless poultry, prawns, low or fat free cheeses, almonds, lowfat or nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as kidney beans, cucumbers and turnips. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime initially invented by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet fans believe that they actually reduce a few pounds by following this system. The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of balance which is much more wholesome than usual, which is known as the zone. Sears believes that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a result, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat. The key process of the zone diet is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has high levels of Omega 3 fish oils. Brassicas, Healthy superfoods that help with Weight loss (examples: Kohlrabi, Watercress, Turnips and Napa) Members of the brassica family are full of vitamins (folate and vitamin c, for example), minerals (selenium and potassium, for example), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. In addition to their many health benefits, some of these nutrients are believed by many to significantly lower the risk of getting cancer. |
