Ingredients

1/3 cup diced orange peel
1/2 cup diced lemon peel
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/2 cup diced dates
1/4 cup brandy or orange juice
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 pineapple chunks


Directions

Combine orange peel, lemon peel, raisins, dates and
brandy (or orange juice) in a mixing bowl. Add
remaining ingredients, except pineapple. Mix well.
Spoon batter into baking cups, filling each 2/3 full.
Top each with a pineapple chunk. Bake in a 325~ oven
for 30 to 34 minutes. Cool.
Yield: 12 cakes.
Food Exchanges per cake: 1 starch/bread, 1 fruit +
2 fats.
Nutrittional information per cake: 212 calories, 3
g protein, 27 g carbohydrate, 11 g fat, 88 mg sodium,
182 mg potassium and 46 mg cholesterol.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss program first created by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a weight reduction diet, however many followers find that they really manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet.
The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to gain control of the secretion of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of balance that is far more healthful than usual, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a result, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The most valuable procedure of the zone diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils.


The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index weight loss program is based around the glycaemic index, a list of food types and a score illustrating the speed with which the carbohydrates of the food gets changed to glucose in your system. The believe is that slow acting types of food (ie with a low Gi number), will keep you feeling full for longer and help you to take in fewer food without feeling you are missing out.
It's also very useful for folk with diabetes, as the low GI foods are beneficial in preventing surges in blood glucose amount.
