Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes pickled shallots, white onions and green onion) The onion, leek and garlic family is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is too little real proof published, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to reduce symptoms with antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and fatigue. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so should be included in your weight loss regime. Lycopene superfoods (includes guava, red peppers and sweet gourd) Lycopene is a simple pigment and member of the same family of phytochemicals as carotene. This chemical is accountable for the dark red colour of quite a few natural foods. Usefully, unlike most other nutritional compounds, lycopene is not damaged during the cooking process, but is essentially increased in efficacy by being heated. . Its most interesting value is that it acts as an antioxidant and is believed to be an asset in the fight to reduce the probabilty of cancer. Lycopene is the most effective carotenoid quencher of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with aging of the skin. It's also thought by many experts to block the development of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. |
