Weight loss systems


The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t expressly a weight loss diet, although many zone diet fans find that they really manage to lose weight by following this system.
The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts one's body in a state of equilibrium that is an awful lot more healthy than usual, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears believes that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is much more efficient and, because of this, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The most important technique of the zone diet is to control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.


The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is based on the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing foods and a score representing the ease with which the glucose of the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters body. The claim is that slow acting types of food (ie those with a low Gi number), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to reduce your consumption of food without craving snacks all the time.
It's also extremeley useful for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are useful in preventing increases in glucose levels.


The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the famous atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Although highly controversial, it enables fat reduction whilst still eating many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as bacon and egg and cheese.
With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic of the atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbs to burn into glucose, it is the carbs that are burned first. If we eat less carbohydrates, our bodies will burn up the fat we have stored and we will become thinner. Although tempting, the atkins diet is controversial, not all experts agree and some experts think it can sometimes be hazardous.




The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a weight loss system invented by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes the consumption of "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston invented his weight loss regime as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a result of his detailed study of scientific data on other weight loss systems.
Approved foods include, canadian bacon, skinless poultry, fish and shellfish, fat-free cheeses, peanuts, lowfat milk and some vegatables, such as artichokes, cabbage and spinach.
