Brassicas, Wonder foods that also help with your Dieting (eg. Broccoli, Bok choy, Turnips and Napa) Vegetablesi in the brassica family are full of vitamins (eg.folate and vit c), minerals (selenium and potassium, for example), fibre, chlorophyll and antioxidents. In addition to their most other beneficial effects, the vitamins and nutrients in these are believed by nutritionalists to help reduce the cancer risk. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes garlic, white onions and spring onions) The onion, leek and garlic family of vegetables is high in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is very little hard medical proof published, allyl sulphides are also thought by nutritionalists to help with blood circulation, arteriosclerosis and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are low in calories, so should be included in every weight loss program. Low calorie diet As most people know, the low-cal diet depends on the fact that in order to get rid of some fat, it is essential to take in less calories than you burn up. What is a calorie? A calorie is a unit of measurement for energy. The 'calorie' is the the amount of energy required to raise one cubic centimeter of water by one degree centigrade. If a food contains more calories, then it will turn into more energy to use when it is converted. Low calorie food types include fresh green beans, green peppers, melon, canadian bacon, and skimmed milk. |
