The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systems over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight reduction whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, such as fatty meat and eggs.
Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, diet system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to burn into glucose and energy, it is the carbs which are burned primarily. If we consume fewer carbs, we will consume the fat we have stored and we will achieve weight loss. This is the bit that is controversial, not all medical experts concur and quite a few allege that it might be bad for your health.

Healthy foods with carotenes
(includes carrots, rose hip puree and tomato ketchup)
These orange and green healthy superfoods contain the carotenoids believed to play a role in minimising the risk of cancer, particularly of the lung, esophagus and stomach. The majority of these also have a low calorie count, so are ideal for including in your weight loss regime.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
