Ingredients
6 green tomatoes, chopped
6 tart apples, chopped
1 cup currants
1 cup raisins
3 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tbsp grated orange peel
1/2 cup unsweetened orange juice
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a large, heavy pot. Simmer until thick.
Makes about 3 quarts. Freeze mincemeat in one-cup portions.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst still eating many foods that are not normally available to dieters, like beef and egg and cheese. With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, weight loss program. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including, but not limited to, cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic of the atkins diet is that if we consume less carbs, our bodies will deplete our stored fat and we will achieve weight loss Healthy foods with carotenes (includes carrots, collard greens and winter squash) These superfoods contain the carotenoids believed by experts play a key part in minimizing the risk of cancer, spefically cancer of the lungs. The majority of these are also low in calories, so are ideal for including in your diet system. |
