Healthy foods with carotenes
(includes cilantro, collard greens and winter squash)
These orange and green vegetables and fruits are rich in alpha-carotene and beta-carotene believed by nutritionalists to play a role in minimising the risk of cancer, specifically those cancers involving the lung, esophagus and stomach. A good number are low in calories, so should be included in your weight loss program.

Foods high in flavonoids
(inlcudes cranberry, kale, kidney bean and peppermint)

The large family of compounds known as flavonoids discovered in these food types are believed to be good as cancer fighters.
Medical experts researching the nutritional effects of flavonoids believe that they could have numerous other healthy properties, including anti-candida and anti-inflammatory powers.
Most also help you lose weight, so should be a part of every diet system.

The Atkins’ Diet
Developed by dr. robert atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Popular with many famous celebrities, it claims to allow weight reduction whilst allowing many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, such as pork and some dairy produce.
Unlike other diets, with the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With this diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
