Lycopene foods (includes apricots, papaya & spiny bitter gourd) The phytochemical lycopene is a naturally occurring compound and a member of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. This chemical is responsible for the vivid red color of quite a few fruit, vegetables and pulses. Usefully, unlike many other nutritional compounds, it does not degrade if cooked, rather it is actually made more effective by going through the cooking process. . Lycoprene's main benefit is that it acts as an antioxidant and appears to help lower the probabilty of cancer. Lycopene is the most powerful remover of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with skin aging. It's also believed to curtail the development of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. |
