Weight loss diets

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition system is linked to the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing types of food and an indicator of the ease that the glucose and energy of the food gets changed to glucose in your blood stream. The believe is that long-acting foods (ie those with a low Glycaemic index score), will keep you feeling full for longer and mean that you can cut down on food without craving snacks all the time.
It is also extremely good for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are beneficial in managing surges in glucose levels.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight loss diet, however some people discover that they really seem to lose a few pounds when following it.
The main theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts the body in a state of balance which is a lot more healthful than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, as a result, does not build up layers of fat.
The key technique of the system is to monitor and control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with high levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which emphasizes that dieters should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston developed his weight loss system for people who have cardiac problems, based on his detailed analysis of scientific research completed on other weight loss systems.
Examples of good foods include, veal cutlets, turkey breast, seafood, provolone cheese, peanuts, lowfat milk and certain vegetables, such as asparagus, lettuce and water chestnuts.

The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, for example fatty meat and hard cheeses.
On the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
