Lycopene superfoods
(includes melon, papaya and rosehip)

The phytochemical lycopene is a natural compound used to color foods and one of the carotenid family. It is the agent responsible for the dark red color of some types of food.

Intrestingly, unlike numerous other nutritional compounds, lycopene is not damaged if it is cooked, but is actually improved by being heated.

. Its main medical value is that it behaves as an antioxidant and seems to be of use in the fight to lower the risk of contracting cancer.

This useful phytochemical is the most effective quencher of singlet oxygen, which is linked with skin aging. It is also thought by nutritionalists to prevent the progression of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet system first detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t particularly a weight reduction diet, however many 'zone dieters' discover that they lose weight by following the zone diet.
The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a balanced state that is more healthy than normal, known as the 'zone'.
Sears claims that when in the 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat.
The key procedure of the diet is to control the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 3 fish oils.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
