Weight loss diets

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan created by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which stresses the consumption of "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston invented his nutritional system for people who have cardiac problems, as a result of his detailed study of scientific data completed on other dietary studies.
Good foods include, broiled ham, turkey bacon, fish, ricotta cheese, almonds, eggs and some vegatables, such as lentils, collard greens and water chestnuts.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet primarily devised by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many 'zone dieters' find that they seem to lose body weight by following the zone diet.
The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a result puts your body in a balanced state which is far more healthy than it normally is, which is known as the zone.
Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, does not need to convert surplus energy to fat.
The key technique of the system is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased levels of Omega 3 fish oils.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weightloss system is based around the gi index, a list showing types of food and a score representing the speed that the glucose and energy of the food gets changed to sugar in the dieters bloodstream. The claim is that slow acting food types (ie those with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite for longer and mean that you can reduce your consumption of food without craving snacks all the time.
It's also extremely beneficial for people with diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in minimizing surges in blood sugar secretion.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
