Weight loss diets


The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, but many people discover that they manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet.
The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if one can limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (both hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts the body in a balanced state which is much, much more wholesome than normal, this is referred to as 'the zone'.
Sears believes that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat.
The key method of the diet is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6.


The Atkins’ Diet
Although it originated back in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet is still widely used today. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it allows weight loss whilst still eating many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, for example bacon and hard cheeses.
With this diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate, high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the famous atkins diet is that if we eat less carbohydrates, we will use up our stored fat and we will achieve weight loss




The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is based around the gi (or glycaemic index), a chart showing foods and an indicator of the ease with which the carbohydrates of the food type gets converted to sugar in the dieters blood stream. The believe is that slow acting food types (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic index score), keep you satiated for longer and help you to eat less food without being miserabl;e.
It's also extremely effective for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are useful in reducing surges in blood glucose secretion.


The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet plan started by Dr. arthur agatston which encourages that dieters should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Agatston invented his dietary regime as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a result of his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other diets.
"good" foods include, broiled ham, turkey breast, clams, fat-free cheeses, pistachios, nonfat yoghurt and certain vegetables, like asparagus, cabbage and snow peas.
