Diet information

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The glycaemic index diet is based on the gi index, a list of foods and an indicator of the speed that the glucose and energy in the food type gets changed to glucose in the dieters body. The believe is that long-acting types of food (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic score), suppress your appetite and help to reduce your intake of food without feeling you are missing out.
It is also especially beneficial for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI types of food are beneficial in controlling increases in glucose secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although highly controversial, it claims to allow weight loss whilst encouraging you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, for example fatty meat and cheeses.
With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbs to transform into carbs, it is the carbohydrates which are burned primarily. If we eat less carbs, we will deplete our fat and we will become thinner. Although tempting, the atkins diet is contentious, not all experts are in agreement and some think it might be risky.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.
"Walter Savage Landor"

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
