Weight loss diets

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list of food types and an indicator of the speed that the energy in the food type gets transformed to sugar in your body. The theory is that slow acting types of food (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to cut down on food without feeling you are missing out.
It's also very efficient for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI food types are beneficial in preventing surges in blood glucose secretion.

The Atkins’ Diet
Now nearly 5 decades old, the atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last decade. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, such as beef and butter.
On the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is often referred to as a low carbohydrate, high protein, nutrition and weightloss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are still nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The theory of the atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to convert into carbs, it is the carbs that are burned initially. If we cut down on carbohydrates, we will utilise the fat we already carry and we will become thinner. Although tempting, the atkins diet is contentious, not all researchers are in agreement and a few think it can be bad for your health.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system primarily suggested by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many zone diet followers believe that they really reduce a few pounds by following this system.
The science behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which, in turn puts one's body in a balanced state which is a lot more wholesome than normal, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'.
Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat.
The key procedure of the zone system is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take high levels of Omega 3 and omega 6.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
