Foods containing allyl sulfides
( includes eschalot, chives and spring onions) The onion family of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is too little real proof available, allyl sulphides are also thought by many researchers to reduce symptoms with blood circulation, sterilization and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your diet. Super foods containing lycopene (includes watermelon, papaya & tomatoes) The nutrient lypcopene is a naturally occurring coloring agent and a member of the same group of phytochemicals as carotene. It is accountable for the deep red hue of quite a few foods. Unlike most other nutritional compounds, lycopene does not degrade if cooked, but is in fact increased in efficacy by going through the cooking process. . Its most important value is that it is an antioxidant and is believed to be an asset in the fight to lower the probabilty of developing cancer. Lycopene is the most powerful eliminator of singlet oxygen, which is connected with aging of the skin. It is also thought by many experts to curtail the growth of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index weight loss regime is based on the glycaemic index, a list of foods and an indicator of the rapidity with which the carbohydrates of the food type gets converted to glucose in your bloodstream. The theory is that slow release foods (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to consume less food without feeling you are always hungry. It's also extremely effective for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in reducing increases in glucose levels. |
