Brassicas, Wonderfoods that help with Weight loss (eg. Broccoli, Broccoli, Mizuna and Radishes) Altthough not always popular with children, these are rich in vitamins (eg.folate and vit c), minerals (eg. potassium and selenium), fibre, chlorophyll, antioxidents, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. Amongst many other health giving properties, the isothiocyanates in these are thought by experts to reduce the risk of cancer. Superfoods containing carotenes (includes parsley, kale and tomato ketchup) These amazing healthy plants have high levels of carotenes (alpha and beta) believed by nutritionalists play a key part in preventing cancer, particularly those cancers involving the stomach. Many are also low in calories, so make sure you add them to your diet system. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a weight reduction diet, although many zone diet followers claim that they actually reduce weight by following the zone diet. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you gain control of the amount of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of balance which is an awful lot more healthy than usual, known as the 'zone'. Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, does not build up layers of fat. The key process of the zone system is to monitor and control the ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
