Diet typesThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet plan invented by Cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbs" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his weight loss system as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a consequence of his analysis of scientific studies on other nutritional studies. Good foods include, canadian bacon, turkey breast, seafood, ricotta cheese, almonds, lowfat milk and certain vegetables, such as lentils, lettuce and mushrooms. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi (or glycaemic index) nutrition and weight loss system is linked to the gi index, a list of foods and a score illustrating the rapidity with which the glucose of the food gets changed to glucose in your body. The claim is that long-acting food types (ie those foods with a low Gi number), suppress your appetite for longer and mean that you can reduce your intake of food without starving yourself. It's also extremely effective for diabetics, as the low GI types of food are useful in managing rises in blood glucose secretion. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the popular atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing many foods that are not normally available to dieters, eg lamb and hard cheese. With the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weightloss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The theory of the atkins diet is that if we reduce your consumption of carbohydrates, our bodies will utilise the fat we have stored and we will become thinner |
