The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a weight loss regime primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated website. The Zone diet is not distinctly a fat reduction diet, but some people find that they really manage to lose body weight by following this system. The main theory of the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is far more wholesome than it normally is, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears holds the theory that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a consequence, does not convert energy to unsightly fat. The most important procedure of the diet is to keep tight control over the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to ensure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 fish oils. The brassica family, Super foods that aid Weight loss (includes Kale, Bok choy, Turnips and Radishes) Known as cruciferous vegetables, these have large amounts of vitamins (eg.folate and vitamin c), minerals (including potassium and selenium), chlorophyll, fibre, indole-3-carbinol and isothiocyanates.. Over and above their numerous other great health giving properties, the vitamins and nutrients in these are believed by experts to reduce the risk of cancer. |
