Diet information

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is reliant on the gi index, a list showing foods and a score illustrating the speed with which the glucose and energy of the food type gets converted to glucose in the dieters bloodstream. The theory is that slow release types of food (ie with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to cut down on food without being miserabl;e.
It's also beneficial for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI types of food are helpful in preventing rises in blood glucose secretion.

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet primarily devised by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not particularly a weight loss diet, although many followers find that they actually reduce a few pounds by following this system.
The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can manage to control the amount of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts the body in a balanced state that is far more healthy than usual, known as the 'zone'.
Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your body is working at its most efficient and, because of this, does not build up layers of fat.
The main process of the zone system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take increased levels of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils.

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it supposedly allows fat reduction whilst still eating many foods that would not be part of a normal diet, eg lamb and some dairy produce.
On the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, it is the carbs that must be avoided. It is often referred to as a low carb/high protein, nutrition system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a result, olive oil.

The South Beach Diet
The South Beach diet is a diet started by Miami, florida-area cardiologist arthur agatston which stresses that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats"
Dr. agatston invented the south beach diet as an aid to patients with heart conditions, as a consequence of his detailed study of scientific studies on other weight loss regimes.
Approved foods include, veal cutlets, turkey bacon, shrimp, parmesan cheese, pistachios, lowfat or nonfat milk and certain vegetables, such as green beans, collard greens and water chestnuts.

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
