Super foods containing lycopene (includes apricots, red peppers & sweet gourd) Lycopene is a natural chemical compound and member of the carotenid family. Lycopene is behind the deep red color of some natural foods. Usefully, unlike most other healthy agents, lycopene is not damaged if it is cooked, instead it is in fact enhanced by cooking. . Lycoprene's most important value is that it behaves as an antioxidant and is thought to help reduce the risks of cancer. It is the most efficacious remover of singlet oxygen, which is connected with skin aging. It is also thought by many experts to slow down the growth of atherosclerosis. Flavonoid rich foods (inlcudes lettuce, red apples, scarlet runner bean & chamomile) The nutrients called 'flavonoids' which are present in these types of food are thought by nutritionalists to have properties in helping to prevent cancer. Specialists investigating the medical effects of flavonoids believe they may also have most other health giving capabilities, including, but not limited to, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. The majority of these are low in calories, so you should add them to your diet system. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss regime first advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a fat reduction diet, although some people claim that they manage to lose a few pounds when following it. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a result puts one's body in a balanced state that is more wholesome than other diets, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears alleges that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, because of this, doesn't convert energy to unsightly fat. The key procedure of the diet is to maintain the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take plenty of Omega 3 fish oils. |
