Diet typesThe Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily detailed by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t distinctly a fat reduction diet, although many people discover that they lose body weight by following it. The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you control the amount of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of equilibrium that is a lot more healthful than other diets, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears states that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is much more efficient and, as a result, does not need to build up stores of fat. The key procedure of the diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has large amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. The Glycaemic Index Diet The gi index nutrition and weight loss system is linked to the glycaemic index, a list of types of food and a score representing the ease with which the carbs of the food gets transformed to glucose in your blood stream. The believe is that slow release food types (ie those food types with a low Glycaemic score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help to reduce your intake of food without starving yourself. It is also extremeley useful for sufferers from diabetes, as the low GI food types are useful in minimizing surges in glucose secretion. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a weight loss system started by Dr. arthur agatston, a cardiologist from miami, usa, which stresses that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbs" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston invented his nutritional system for his cardiac patients, based on his detailed analysis of scientific studies completed on other weight loss regimes. Good foods include, lean beef, turkey breast, fish and shellfish, ricotta cheese, peanuts, lowfat or nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as artichokes, cucumbers and sprouts. |
