Foods containing carotenes (includes parsley, turnip greens and tomato ketchup) These natural foods have high levels of alpha and beta carotenes thought to play a role in helping prevent cancer, specifically of the the esophagus and stomach. Most are low in calories, so should be a part of every weight loss program. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes garlic, chives and green onion) The onion, leek and garlic family of vegetables is high in allyl sulfides, a chemical which experts believe could be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Even though there is insufficient scientific proof obtainable, allyl sulphides are also thought by many researchers to aid in antiinflammatory effect, sterilization and diabetes. Foods containing allyl sulfides are also good for weight loss, so should be included in every diet system. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a weight loss program primarily advocated by Barry Sears in a number of books and publications. The Zone diet is not exactly a fat reduction diet, but many zone diet followers believe that they actually manage to lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The 'science' claimed for the Zone Diet is that if you control the secretion of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts one's body in a state of equilibrium which is more healthful than usual, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone". Sears claims that a body that is in 'the zone' is working at its most efficient and, as a consequence, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The most interesting procedure of the system is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to ensure you get plenty of Omega 3 fish oils. |
