A good number also help you lose weight, so make sure you add them to your weight loss regime. Foods containing allyl sulfides ( includes pickled shallots, onions and green onion) The onion and garlic range of vegetables is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe might be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. The Atkins’ Diet Although it originated back in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although not accepted by all scientists, it allows fat reduction whilst encouraging you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, such as beef and some dairy produce. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet it is considered good to eat fat and protein, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, weight loss regime. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat continues to be nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic behind the popular atkins diet is that although our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to transform into carbs, it is the carbs that are burned initially. If we take in less carbohydrates, our bodies will use up our fat and we will reduce weight. Although tempting, the atkins diet is contentious, not all nutritionalists are in agreement and many feel it can sometimes be hazardous. |
