Diet informationThe South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet started by Cardiologist arthur agatston which encourages that one should consume "good carbs" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Dr. agatston developed his weight loss system for his cardiac patients, based on his detailed study of scientific research on other weight loss studies. Good foods include, broiled ham, turkey breast, shrimp, mozzarella cheese, pistachio nuts, lowfat or nonfat milk and some vegatables, such as lentils, broccoli and turnips. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weightloss system initially created by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet is not specifically a fat reduction diet, however many people believe that they manage to lose body weight by following this system. The main scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one can gain control of the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which puts your body in a balanced state that is more wholesome than normal, known as the 'zone'. Sears claims that if you get into this 'zone', your metabolism is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, doesn't build up fat. The key procedure of the diet is to keep tight control over the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to take increased amounts of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
