Diet typesThe Glycaemic Index Diet The glycaemic index nutrition and weight loss system is based around the gi index, a list of food types and an indicator of the ease with which the carbohydrates in the food type gets transformed to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The claim is that long-acting food types (ie those food types with a low Gi score), keep you satisfied for a longer period of time and help you to reduce your consumption of food without craving snacks all the time. It's also extremely good for individuals with diabetes, as the low GI foods are helpful in controlling increases in glucose amount. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet initially advocated by Barry Sears in a series of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not expressly a weight reduction diet, although many 'zone dieters' claim that they really lose a few pounds by following this system. The scientific theory behind the Zone Diet is that if you can gain control of the secretion of two key hormones, (insulin and glucogen), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts your body in a balanced state that is far more healthful than usual, which, not surprisingly, is known as 'the zone'. Sears alleges that if you get into this 'zone', your body is much more efficient and, as a result, doesn't need to convert surplus energy to fat. The key method of the zone diet is to maintain the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to take plenty of Omega 3 and omega 6. The South Beach Diet The South Beach diet is a diet system created by Dr. arthur agatston which emphasizes that one should eat "good carbohydrates" instead of "bad carbohydrates" and "good fats" instead of "bad fats" Doctor agatston developed his weight loss regime as an aid to patients with heart conditions, based on his detailed study of scientific studies on other dietary studies. Examples of good foods include, lean beef, chicken breast, shellfish, feta cheese, peanuts, eggs and certain vegetables, like split peas, celery and sprouts. |
