The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi (or glycaemic index) diet is based around the gi index, a list showing types of food and a score illustrating the speed with which the glucose in the food type gets changed to sugar in the dieters body. The claim is that slow acting types of food (ie those with a low Gi score), keep you feeling full longer and help to injest less food without starving yourself. It is also especially beneficial for diabetics, as the low GI food types are useful in minimizing surges in glucose amount. Foods containing lycopene (includes grapefruit, red bell peppers and tomato puree) Lycopene is a natural coloring compound and one of the phytochemical group known as 'carotenids'. It is accountable for the dark red hue of some types of food. Intrestingly, unlike many other nutritional compounds, this useful phytochemical is not damaged during the cooking process, but is in actuality made more effective by going through the cooking process. . Its main theraputic value is that it is an antioxidant and appears to be of use in the battle to lower the risks of cancer. This useful phytochemical is the most potent fighter of singlet oxygen, which is correlated with skin aging. It is also believed to impede the growth of atherosclerosis. |
