Ingredients
1 1/2 cup thick unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup honey
3 tbsp apple brandy, optional
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 lemon, grated rind only
3 tart apples, peeled & thinly sliced
1/2 cup all-fruit apricot jam

Directions
PREPARE AND BAKE crust according to recipe instructions. (See Light &
Flaky Pie Crust recipe) Set aside. Preheat oven to 375F. In a 2-quart
saucepan over med-high heat, simmer applesauce, honey, brandy if
desired, vanilla and lemon rind until quite thick, about 10 to 15
minutes. Pour mixture into prepared crust. Arrange apples in
concentric circles on top of sauce.
In a 1-qt saucepan over med-high heat, melt apricot jam, then press
through a sieve. Use a pastry brush to glaze apples with jam.
Bake for 30 minutes. Let cool before slicing. Pat Empson 05/21 07:23

( includes eschalot, onions and spring onions) The onion family of foods is rich in allyl sulphides, a chemical which experts believe may be linked to a reduced risk of stomach and colon cancer. Although there is insufficient scientific evidence at hand, allyl sulphides are also thought to help with antiinflammatory effect, arteriosclerosis and insomnia. Foods containing allyl sulfides also have a low calorie count, so should be included in your diet system. Superfoods containing carotenes (includes carrots, kale and sweet potatoes) These fruit and veg have high levels of the carotenoids believed by scientists to help in preventing cancer, particularly of the stomach. A good number are also low in calories, so should be included in every weight loss program. The Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the atkins diet is still one of the most popular diets today. Although highly controversial, it allows weight reduction but still allows you to eat many foods that are not normally available to dieters, eg bacon and hard cheeses. On the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. Because of this, it is known as a high protein, low carb, weight loss regime. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, amongst them, cereals and pasta made from white flour. Unlike other diets, on the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter & olive oil. |
