Types of diet

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system first created by Barry Sears in a series of books. The Zone diet is not specifically a weight reduction diet, however many 'zone dieters' claim that they manage to lose weight when following it.
The 'science' behind the Zone Diet is that if you can control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, as a consequence puts one's body in a state of equilibrium that is an awful lot more wholesome than normal, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is perfectly balanced and, because of this, doesn't build up layers of fat.
The most important procedure of the zone diet is to monitor and control the exact ratio of carbs to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6.

The Atkins’ Diet
Originating way back in the 1960s, the atkins diet has been one of the most popular weight loss systms over the last few years. Having many well known film stars amongst its supporters, it claims to allow fat reduction whilst allowing you to eat foods that are normally considered bad for diets, such as lamb and hard cheese.
On the atkins diet you are supposed to eat fat and protein, avoiding carbohydrates almost completely. It is referred to as a high protein, low carb, nutrition and weight loss system.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
On the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods like meat, fish and, as a consequence, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The 'science' behind the famous atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to transform into carbs, it is the carbohydrates that are burned first. If we eat less carbs, we will use up our stored fat and we will become thinner. Although inviting, this theory is contentious, not all doctors accept this as true and a few feel it can be risky.

The Glycaemic Index Diet
The gi index nutrition and weightloss system is reliant on the gi (or glycaemic index), a list showing food types and an indicator of the ease that the carbohydrates in the food type gets changed to glucose in the dieters blood stream. The believe is that slow acting types of food (ie with a low Gi number), keep you satiated for longer and help to reduce your intake of food without feeling hungry.
It's also extremely efficient for diabetes sufferers, as the low GI foods are beneficial in controlling rises in glucose amount.

"A good cook is the peculiar gift of the gods. He must be a perfect creature from the brain to the palate, from the palate to the finger's end.

"A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit."

"Reality check: you can never, ever, use weight loss to solve problems that are not related to your weight. At your goal weight or not, you still have to live with yourself and deal with your problems. You will still have the same husband, the same job, the same kids, and the same life. Losing weight is not a cure for life"
Phillip C. McGraw
