Weight loss systemsThe Atkins’ Diet First invented by doctor atkins in the sixities, the atkins diet is still widely used today. Popular with many famous celebrities, it allows weight loss whilst still eating foods that are normally considered bad for diets, eg lamb and hard cheeses. With the atkins diet you eat protein and fat, it is the carbs that are on the banned list. It is referred to as a low carbohydrate/high protein, nutrition and weight loss system. With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour. With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish and, as a result, poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and, as a consequence, olive oil. The Atkins’ Diet Theory The logic of the atkins diet is that even if our bodies use both fats and carbs to convert into glucose, it is the carbohydrates that are burned primarily. If we eat less carbs, our bodies will use our stored fat and we will become thinner. This is the bit that is contentious, not all nutritionalists accept this as true and some hold that it can sometimes be risky. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a nutrition and weight loss system initially created by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an accompanying website. The Zone diet is not expressly a fat reduction diet, nevertheless many people find that they really seem to lose a few pounds when following it. The supposed science behind the Zone Diet is that if you can limit the levels of the hormones 'insulin' and 'glucogen', then your body releases eicosanoids (anti-inflamatory chemicals) which, in turn puts the body in a state of equilibrium which is far more healthful than it normally is, this is referred to as 'the zone'. Sears alleges that when your body is in this 'zone' it is much more efficient and, as a result, does not build up layers of fat. The most important method of the diet is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbs to proteins, and to make sure your diet has plenty of Omega 6 and omega 3 fish oils. |
