Foods rich in lycopene (includes apricot, red peppers and rosehip) The chemical lypcopene is a simple chemical compound and one of the carotenid family. This chemical is the agent responsible for the deep red hue of many types of food. Fortunately, unlike most other nutritional compounds, this useful phytochemical does not become less effective if heated during cooking, but is noticeably made more effective by the cooking process. . Lycoprene's main advantage is that it acts as an antioxidant and is thought to be of use in the battle to lower the risks of cancer. Lycopene is the strongest fighter of singlet oxygen, which is linked with skin aging. It's also thought by many researchers to curtail the growth of diseases affecting arterial blood vessels. The Zone Diet The Zone diet is a diet primarily detailed by Barry Sears in a series of books and publications. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight loss diet, however many followers believe that they really lose a few pounds by following the zone diet. The science behind the Zone Diet is that if you manage to limit the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones), then your body releases eicosanoids which, as a result puts the body in a state of balance that is much, much more healthy than normal, known as the 'zone'. Sears states that when in the 'zone', your body is working at its best and, because of this, does not need to build up stores of fat. The main process of the diet is to keep tight control over the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to dose yourself with large amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6. |
